Nara Smith reveals unexpected grief after her two-year-old daughter’s cancer diagnosis

Nara Smith has spoken candidly about one of the most challenging aspects of her young daughter’s cancer diagnosis, which she learned about “late last year.”

In her initial Instagram video about her two-year-old’s condition, Smith, 24, chose not to disclose the specific type of cancer her daughter Whimsy Lou was facing or the state of her health at that moment.

Recently, Smith and her husband, Lucky Blue Smith, 28, have been offering a glimpse into their family life as they navigate this incredibly difficult period.

On Instagram, Smith shared a series of heartfelt clips featuring her, her husband, and their daughter, with “Orbiter” by Noah Kahan playing in the background.

In the caption accompanying the touching videos, the model and influencer expressed the unexpected losses she mourned due to her daughter’s cancer diagnosis.

“Cancer has a way of taking things you never realized you’d grieve,” she wrote. “The day I ran my fingers through her hair, strands coating them, I realized I wouldn’t be brushing Whimsy’s hair much longer.”

“It’s such a small thing, until it isn’t. Tiny curls on her pillow. Hair caught in my fingers after bath time. Hair loss is one of the first visible reminders that life has changed,” she added.

Smith continued to share, “Watching Whimsy lose hers has been one of the hardest parts of this journey. It wasn’t just hair. It was the little curls I tucked behind her ears, the wispy strands that caught the sunlight, and all the ordinary moments I never imagined I’d miss.”

She also expressed a hope that sharing their story might support other families or raise awareness about childhood cancer. “If sharing these pieces of our story helps even one family feel less alone, or encourages one person to learn more about childhood cancer, then this vulnerable part of our lives is worth opening.”

She ended on a hopeful note: “Today her curls are returning.”

Last week, Smith opened up about her daughter’s difficult cancer diagnosis in an emotional video.

“When we saw something suspicious on her, we took her to the ER, and they didn’t quite know what to make of it,” she explained to her followers.

During the visit to their pediatrician, Smith recounted: “I just remember him going really quiet and calm, and my heart dropped in that moment.”

Feeling a deep sense of intuition, she recalled, “I don’t know whether it was my gut telling me something or just a mom’s intuition, but the first thing that I felt was she has cancer.”

Smith and her husband were advised to take their daughter to the nearest children’s hospital for a more thorough examination.

There, after undergoing a series of X-Rays, ultrasounds, and a biopsy, Whimsy Lou was diagnosed with cancer.

The diagnosis revealed that the cancer had spread, prompting the commencement of chemotherapy for their daughter “immediately.”
