Adam Sandler made headlines not just for officiating a high-profile wedding but for his actions immediately thereafter.
The 59-year-old comedy icon helped Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift exchange vows at their glamorous ceremony on Friday, July 3. However, just two days later, Sandler found himself in an unexpected situation involving local law enforcement.
The actor was not in any sort of legal trouble. Instead, he made a humorous and rather unique request to the authorities.
After celebrating the Fourth of July in New Hampshire, Sandler journeyed to Nantucket, Massachusetts, for the weekend.
Once there, he took the unusual step of contacting the Nantucket Police Department’s non-emergency line.
What prompted this call? He was on a mission to locate a local pickup basketball game.
Typically, most people wouldn’t dream of asking the police such a question, but Sandler’s charm and popularity make life a bit more lenient for him.

In an interview with the Nantucket Current, public safety dispatcher Chris Reynolds recounted the amusing call he received from the Hollywood star.
“Sandler said, ‘Hey, I’m here on your island and I like to play basketball. Can you tell me where there’s a basketball court I could play on?’ ” Reynolds revealed.
Reynolds was more than happy to direct Sandler to a court on Surfside Road, where some locals were already enjoying a game.
One of those players, Andrew Kesler, described the memorable experience of seeing Sandler join their game at Backus Lane court.
“Adam Sandler rolled in a car and started playing pick ups with the boys,” Kesler told the outlet. “He’s like ‘guys let me stretch I’m going to hop in.’ ”
As for Sandler’s performance on the court, Kesler noted, “Great passing and playmaking, decent lay-ups, hesitated to shoot the ball.”
Sandler’s love for basketball is well-documented, and he even squeezed in a game in New York City before officiating the Swift-Kelce nuptials.
The bond between Sandler and Kelce originated while filming the 2025 Netflix comedy “Happy Gilmore 2,” where Kelce made a cameo appearance.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Sandler expressed his admiration for Kelce, calling him “such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell” to collaborate with.
“He’s like the guys I grew up with,” Sandler noted. “When I was with Travis, it reminded me of my buddies in high school and just being able to laugh and say the things you want to say.”
In the same interview, Sandler praised Swift as well, describing her as “incredible.”
“Taylor is so damn nice to my family and has always been,” he said. “My kids have met Taylor a bunch of times over the years, and she’s ridiculously nice to them and warm.”
