Marvel Rival fans have been taken by surprise with the introduction of new skins, especially one that leaves little to the imagination…
The Marvel video game boasts a vast array of over 50 characters from the Marvel Multiverse, including Captain America, who is recognized for his classic red, white, and blue battle attire.
In celebration of the Fourth of July weekend, it’s fitting for him to proudly display the flag – though this time, it seems he might have gone overboard…
The new skin presents the character in a snug USA-themed swimsuit, accentuating his impressive muscles, chest, and something else rather conspicuous, if you catch the drift.
It’s safe to say, the Captain might have considered a larger size for his outfit…
The game has a history of unveiling ‘revealing’ costumes, but fans are still taken aback, expressing their reactions on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I’m sorry but this is way too far,” remarked one user, while another commented: “This is just actually weird, right?”
A third concerned fan wrote: “I don’t think that’s appropriate? I know loads of kids that play this game. but maybe I’m overreacting? Tell me if I am!”
On the other hand, some argued that it was ‘the logical thing to do’ given the ‘sexualization’ of female skins in the game.
“I don’t see the controversy; it’s in line with the rest of the skins,” mentioned one fan.
Another concurred: “I think this skin is covering way too much, the female skins have way less fabric.”
Announcing the release a few days prior, the official Marvel Rival’s account posted on X: “The beach crew voted Captain America should man the grill, just like the red, white, and blue-blooded specimen of American masculinity people believe he is. Unfortunately, his skills on the grill were not nearly as calculated as his shield throws.”
They further noted: “First Appears in Marvel Swimsuit Special (1992) #1.”
In the 90s comic, the superhero is depicted wearing a similar tight outfit, adorned with the American flag.
However, the ‘extra’ feature seems to add even more prominence…
Despite the buzz, the ‘controversial’ Captain America skin isn’t the only new release from July 2.
Players also received a few other beach-themed skins, including those for Loki and White Fox.
Captain America has been in the spotlight recently, with the announcement that Anthony Mackie will portray Sam Wilson/the new Captain America, in the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release in December this year.
