Celine Dion recently provided a personal update to her fans through a new video, as she continues her struggle with the rare stiff-person syndrome (SPS).
The Canadian singer, known for her French-speaking background, disclosed her diagnosis of this incurable autoimmune neurological disorder in 2022. This revelation led to the cancellation of several tour dates as her condition, once kept private, began to deteriorate.
Dion, who ranks third in album sales among female artists globally, explained that this condition impacts every aspect of her life. The muscle spasms associated with SPS have hindered her mobility and affected her iconic singing voice.
In a recent Thanksgiving message, the 57-year-old artist, famous for hits like Power of Love, appeared to be in improved health. She was seen reclined on a large cushion, calmly addressing her fans on camera.
“Dear friends, today is a beautiful reminder to slow down, take a deep breath, and give thanks,” she began.

“There’s something so powerful about gathering with the people you love. Whether around the full table, over the phone, or even just in your heart,” she continued.
Dion’s message is particularly significant given her challenging past decade, marked by personal tragedies. In 2016, she faced the loss of her husband, who succumbed to cancer, followed by the death of her 59-year-old brother Daniel just two days later, also due to cancer.
Despite these hardships, Dion has maintained a positive public demeanor, focusing on life with her three sons: 24-year-old René-Charles and 15-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.
However, SPS has proven increasingly difficult for Dion to manage, with the singer describing the condition as feeling ‘like somebody is strangling you’.
“I’m so thankful to my family in our moments together that mean the world to me,” she expressed in her seasonal message.
“May your Thanksgiving be filled with joy, peace, and gratitude for everything, even the little things.”
She also shared her gratitude for the year, stating: “I’m so thankful to my family and our moments together that meant the world to me.”
For Dion’s devoted fans, her radiant appearance in the social media post offers a welcome contrast to the somber moment when she first announced her diagnosis.
“Wishing everyone a beautiful and peaceful Thanksgiving,” she penned beneath the post, which received over 100,000 likes and numerous supportive comments.
“May your day be filled with love, gratitude, and precious moments with the people who mean the most to you,” her message concluded, accompanied by two kisses.
