Karl Bushby, a British adventurer, has dedicated an astonishing 27 years to walking across the globe, and he recently shared his top three favorite destinations.
While many people dream of globe-trotting, few would consider forgoing all modern transportation to explore the world by foot and swim. However, at the age of 29, Karl Bushby made this bold decision and has continued his journey for more than two decades.
Now 56 years old, Bushby frequently updates his social media followers about his travels and shares videos detailing his current adventures around the world.
In a recent TikTok post discussing his swim across the Caspian Sea, Bushby was asked about his favorite country.
The Caspian Sea, spanning over 143,000 square miles, touches the borders of Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Iran.

For those wondering, Bushby didn’t swim the entire sea in one stretch. He took rest breaks on a nearby vessel, returning to his previous location each morning to continue his swim.
When asked about his favorite destinations, Bushby listed Colombia, Chile, and Mexico, though he didn’t elaborate on his choices.
However, he has shared insights into some of the most frightening places he has encountered during his 27 years of travel.
Recounting his experience in the early 2000s, Bushby ventured through the Darién Gap, a dense rainforest area devoid of roads between Panama and Colombia.
In an interview with CBS, he described the region as being ‘in the middle of a warzone’ due to cartel activity.

He stated: “There was a whole layer above that that was cartels and drug plantations, and then really, really tough jungle.”
Another daunting experience he recounted was crossing the Bering Strait, where he became the first Briton to achieve this feat.
Situated between the Pacific and Arctic oceans, Bushby encountered a polar bear during his crossing, highlighting the dangers of such an expedition.
Reflecting on the experience, he remarked: “You’re in a very serious world that will kill you in 20 minutes if you mess up.”
