Kate Beckinsale shared a peculiar story about her daughter’s boyfriend that left Jimmy Kimmel baffled.
During a standard guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, actress Kate Beckinsale recounted an unusual tale that captivated the audience’s attention.
On November 25, Beckinsale was on the late-night show to promote her forthcoming movie, Wildcat. The conversation took an unexpected twist as she began discussing her family.
The 52-year-old actress revealed that the recent years had been tough due to the loss of both her parents. Her mother Judy Loe passed away from cancer at the age of 78 in July 2025, and her stepfather Roy Battersby died in January 2024 at 87.
Yet, amidst these challenging times, Beckinsale found a ‘bright spot’ that involved her 26-year-old daughter Lily Sheen’s boyfriend.
Beckinsale recounted that the unnamed boyfriend supposedly laid an egg.
In response to Kimmel’s bewilderment, who questioned if this was some British slang, Beckinsale clarified that the boyfriend had indeed laid two eggs in a week, and it was not a euphemism.
She explained, “Well, he said, ‘I’ve laid an egg’ and of course I was like ‘Okay’, trying to divert attention from the cancer operation, but it had a shell and a yolk.”
Beckinsale detailed that the egg emerged from his body, not from his mouth.
She elaborated: “He went to the bathroom and then was very surprised to find that he had laid an egg.
“I got very involved in this, because I really did need a distraction because everything was so horrible.”
Amused yet confused, Kimmel jested, suggesting the actress may have mistaken the egg for one of the boyfriend’s testicles.
When asked about her belief in the boyfriend’s story, Beckinsale confirmed her belief, noting that he seemed ‘genuinely scared’ during the first incident.
She went further to describe the egg as resembling a ‘hardboiled one, too, it kind of cooked inside him’, according to her account.
Adding to the story, she said: “At first, I thought, ‘Okay, this is a little bit embellished, obviously he can’t — this doesn’t happen.’ With so much happening in my family, I kind of went, okay, boyfriend’s laid an egg, whatever.
“And then a week later, my daughter was flying back to New York, where she lives, and I got a text that says, ‘Oh my God, he’s done it again, and now he’s really freaking out,’ and he’s allergic to tree nuts, so we’ve had some emergencies, but this was more intense than a tree nut emergency.”
As far as science tells us, human males don’t typically lay eggs, which leaves a few plausible explanations.
Perhaps Beckinsale is sharing an elaborate joke, or it might be a prank the couple played on Beckinsale during a tough period.
Regardless, it’s a memorable anecdote.
