Macaulay Culkin has once again brought attention to his legal name, which he changed in 2019.
Known for his iconic roles in films such as Home Alone, Uncle Buck, and Richie Rich, Culkin remains a prominent figure in Hollywood.
Despite his fame, some might not recall Culkin’s full legal name after his decision six years ago.
Officially, the actor’s name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin, a fact he reminded attendees of during ‘A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin’ held on Saturday (November 22). This gathering was organized to honor the 35th anniversary of the Christmas classic Home Alone.
One might wonder what prompted Culkin to choose such a distinctive name.
During a 2018 appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s show, Culkin revealed his plan to create a poll allowing fans to select his new middle name.
The humorous choices in the poll included: Kieran (after his brother), TheMcRibIsBack, Shark Week, Publicity Stunt, or Macaulay Culkin.
“Sure, I might have gold-plated watercraft, and chrome plated invisibility cloaks, but all I want for Christmas is a new middle name,” he joked at the time.
On Christmas Day 2018, he revealed the winning name and officially changed it to Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin in 2019.
The reason behind the poll was purely for amusement.
“I did it all for that one joke. And a bit on Fallon,” Culkin admitted.
At the anniversary event, another subject of discussion was his children’s reaction to Home Alone. Culkin, a father of two, shared that while his kids have seen the movie several times, they still don’t recognize him as Kevin.
He mentioned that his sons, Dakota, four, and Carson, three, ‘really love’ the film.
Culkin shares his children with longtime partner and Disney actress Brenda Song. The couple, who have been together for several years, got engaged in 2022 but have not yet married.
Song explained: “We talked about eloping. But I was like, ‘If we eloped, my mom would have a heart attack that she wasn’t going to be there.’”
There seems to be speculation about whether Song truly wants to marry him, which Culkin is reportedly ‘fine’ with, but he wants clarity on the matter.
Song also pointed out that some people are unaware of her relationship with Culkin. In an interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, she said: “That the public is like, ‘Wait, they’re together and they have kids?’ Good. That means we did our job.”
