During an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show, Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, opened up about the thoughts that went through her mind after her husband’s tragic death during a speaking event.
Erika, 37, previously shared her sorrow over not having a chance to say goodbye to her husband before the 31-year-old conservative commentator was fatally shot in the neck. Speaking to the former Fox host, Erika revealed she was ‘praying to God’ for something in the immediate aftermath of the incident involving Charlie.
On September 10, the day of the incident, Charlie had left early for a campus debate, while Erika was visiting a hospital in Phoenix where her mother was being cared for. At 11.23 am, she received a call from her husband’s assistant with the devastating news. However, Erika sensed something terrible had already occurred.
In a preview shared on X, Kelly questioned the new CEO of Turning Points USA about the couple’s aspirations for a larger family, asking: “You told me this in private — How many kids did you want to have?”
Erika disclosed that they had hoped for four children and shared that upon learning of her husband’s shooting, she longed for an unexpected blessing.
“And I was praying to God that I was pregnant when he got murdered,” she shared with Kelly.
This thought had also crossed Erika’s mind after the shooting, while authorities pursued the alleged 22-year-old shooter, Tyler Robinson.
Kelly remarked: “Oh, wow. I thought of that once… Whether it was meant to be or whether we’d get news like that.”
Less than two months after the fatal incident, Erika became emotional as she reflected on the dream of expanding their family.
“I know,” she said, wiping tears from her eyes.
“I was like, ‘oh, goodness, that was going to be the ultimate blessing out of this catastrophe’. So, now when I see young couples, I tell them, ‘Please, don’t put it off.’”

With a sense of urgency, Kirk emphasized: “Especially if you’re a young woman. Don’t put it off, you can always have a career, you can always, you know, go back to work. You can never just go back to having children. And they grow so fast and so quickly, but I just, I was praying. Both of us were. We were just excited to just expand our family.”
Referring to her two young children, Kelly remarked: “Thank God you’ve got two.”
“A boy and a girl,” Kirk responded, pondering her one-year-old and three-year-old.
“One day, they’ll find out. Right now they’re just little loves. But one day they’ll find out that they’re Charlie Kirk’s children and they’ll know what that means,” she added, receiving applause from the audience.
In another part of the heartfelt interview, Catholic Kelly inquired if the tragic event in Orem, Utah, ever led her to feel angry with God.
Erika replied: “The enemy would love for me to be angry.”
She continued: “He would love it because it would distract me from building what Charlie entrusted to me.
“Raising our babies, Turning Point, being there for the team, being there for what the future holds.”
