Donald Trump and Zohran Mamdani encountered each other face-to-face for the first time at the White House, but the interaction unfolded differently than anticipated.

Before Mamdani’s election as New York’s mayor, Trump had often criticized him, questioning his aptitude for the position.
On Friday, Trump informed his followers via a Truth Social post about the meeting, referring to Mamdani as a ‘communist’ visiting the White House.
In contrast, Mamdani recently labeled Trump a ‘despot’ in his victory speech earlier in the month.
However, when speaking to reporters at the White House, the hostility seemed to have subsided, with both politicians expressing mutual respect.

Trump expressed his belief to reporters, saying Mamdani would be a ‘really great mayor’ and later affirmed his confidence in Mamdani’s capabilities.
He also provided Mamdani with an opportunity to respond to a question about Trump being a ‘fascist,’ suggesting Mamdani could simply agree.
Trump assured that ‘we’re going to be helping him,’ and acknowledged, “We agree on a lot more than I would have thought.”
