Charles Barkley explains why he declined Taylor Swift’s ‘crap show’ wedding invitation

Charles Barkley recently shared his personal philosophy, which led to his decision to decline attending Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s extravagant wedding.

The grand event, held at Madison Square Garden on July 3, has been a hot topic in the community.

Although labeled as a ‘royal wedding,’ details and the guest list have been closely guarded by Swift and Kelce, with attendees staying silent as well.

This secrecy was ensured by having all 1,000 guests sign non-disclosure agreements before the ceremony.

Now that the wedding day has passed, some information has gradually emerged, primarily from attendees.

Charles Barkley chose to share his experience of being invited and his reasons for not attending.

Apparently, he believed it would be a ‘crap show’.

During his appearance on the Unfiltered With Ricky Bo & Bill Colarulo podcast on Tuesday (July 7), the 63-year-old former NBA player and Space Jam actor stated, “I don’t go to weddings and funerals.”

“I did get an invite, and I politely declined. Because I thought it was gonna be a crap show,” Barkley confessed.

Despite not wanting to attend, he holds no negative feelings toward the couple.

Barkley explained that his decision stemmed from the event being too large for his taste.

He told Bo and Colarulo: “I love Travis and Jason [Kelce]. I’ve only met Taylor one time. But yeah, I did get an invite but I said, ‘Hey, that’s just too much.’”

“I don’t wanna dress up and all that other stuff,” he added. “But I appreciate the invitation; it was pretty special.”

Since the wedding, numerous other celebrities have spoken about the event, particularly those who accepted the lavish invitation.

For instance, Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family shared on Instagram: “I guess I can say now. We were at a wedding in New York City last night. Two truly special people found each other and what a joy to be able to celebrate them. And also, [my wife] Lindsay is so hot.”

Suki Waterhouse, who had confirmed her attendance to Variety, shared a Story quoting Francis Bacon after the event: “I often work best with a hangover because my mind is crackling with energy and I can think very clearly.”

Even Jessica Alba posted about the event, expressing in her Instagram post: “We love love. Congrats to T&T – such a beautiful night celebrating you.”
