After reaching a breaking point, a mother decided to transform her life and successfully shed 70 pounds by following a structured meal plan.
Many of us don’t recognize how far we’ve strayed from health until a moment of reflection in front of the mirror prompts a critical question.
Is this it?
For Lyndsey Kelly, this realization was the catalyst that led to significant positive changes in her life.
At 47, she started her journey at 191.8 pounds. By dedicating herself to a new daily routine focused on weight loss, she reached 123 pounds and discovered a passion for bodybuilding.
Lyndsey confessed that she reached a pivotal moment, acknowledging her routine of eating takeout at least weekly and drinking alcohol every weekend.
However, it was a pivotal individual who motivated her to alter her lifestyle.

In January 2024, as she was in her mid-40s, Lyndsey realized it was time to make a change for her health and her son.
She explained: “I changed for my son. I wanted to be a role model and show him what you can achieve.”
Speaking to Talk to the Press, Lyndsey said, “I yo-yo’d with my weight over the years, particularly when my son was young as he was my priority and I would put myself on the backburner. But he is 16 now so I’ve got so much more time.”
She began her transformation by starting workouts at 4 am to fit around her 12-hour work days.
The mother from Bolton, Greater Manchester, described her routine: ‘40 minutes of fasted cardio’, walking to work, and finishing her day with a weights session at the gym.
Her transformative journey truly began after winning a competition for three months with a personal trainer.
Lyndsey then decided to enter a bodybuilding contest, which she didn’t win, but her trainer encouraged her to continue training.

Before her diet change, Lynsey’s lifestyle consisted of takeout meals and alcohol with minimal physical activity.
She admitted: “At first it was agony, but after a couple of weeks you get into it and it becomes routine. I quite enjoy it now because I like the structure and the discipline but that only comes with time. I’m not killing myself with cardio, it’s just consistency.”
Lyndsey described her previous habits as those of a ‘couch potato’, with an unhealthy diet that included:
BREAKFAST – bacon butty (bacon sandwich)
LUNCH – Subway sandwich, pasties (pastry and meat) or pies
DINNER – lasagne or spaghetti bolognaise
SNACKS – chocolate bars, flapjacks or crisps
However, she soon shifted her lifestyle dramatically.

Post-diet, Lyndsey meticulously planned her days with five consistent meals, including oats and yoghurt, chicken and rice, chicken wraps, mincemeat with potatoes and vegetables, and sourdough bread with peanut butter as a treat.
Through her dedication, she eventually placed second in the 2026 NABBA North West bodybuilding competition.
For those inspired by her journey, Lyndsey advises: “You’ve got to get used to it and give it time.
“It can be a bit boring at first, but once you start seeing results, you realize it works. Trust the process.”
