While many were focused on Taylor Swift’s Christian Dior Haute Couture attire and Cartier accessories at her wedding to Travis Kelce, the most notable discussion among attendees arose not from the fashion, but from the microphone.
Lena Dunham, creator of Girls and a longtime friend of Swift’s, gave a memorable speech during the couple’s rehearsal dinner. This event took place on Thursday at Madison Square Garden’s Infosys Theater, leading up to the main ceremony on Friday.
Dunham and Swift share a close relationship, with Dunham highlighting Swift’s supportive nature in her memoir, Famesick. She praised Swift for always being available for her friends, even amidst her demanding schedule.

According to the Daily Mail, Dunham’s speech included the quip, “American football is just straight guys reenacting gay porn,” which was directed towards NFL star and groom Kelce. This comment elicited a mixed reaction, described as ‘divided’ with both ‘gasps and laughs.’
The audience featured several notable NFL personalities, including Jason Kelce, Kareem Hunt from the Kansas City Chiefs, George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers, Cooper Kupp from the Seattle Seahawks, and New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel.
Despite the varied reactions, Swift reportedly appreciated Dunham’s humor. A source informed the Daily Mail that the bride considered her friend’s joke “genius.”
This isn’t the first instance of Swift supporting Dunham on significant occasions. Swift was a bridesmaid at Dunham’s wedding to musician Luis Felber in September 2021 and delivered a heartwarming speech honoring them as a couple.

There was also speculation from the Daily Mail that a well-known celebrity requested an invite but was declined.
Noteworthy by her absence was Swift’s former best friend, Blake Lively. Their friendship reportedly soured due to Lively’s public legal issues with her It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni.
Jack Antonoff, Dunham’s ex-boyfriend and Swift’s frequent music collaborator, attended both the rehearsal dinner and the main event. Antonoff, now married to actress Margaret Qualley, chose to bring his sister Rachel as his guest for the dinner rather than his wife.
