A federal law enforcement initiative named ‘Operation New Dawn’ has successfully located 24 missing children in Chicago and resulted in the arrest of over 300 individuals. This operation aimed to combat various crimes, including robbery, kidnapping, murder, and multiple types of trafficking, among others.
This comprehensive effort involved collaboration among 11 federal law enforcement agencies. According to a statement from the US attorney, the operation also targeted individuals involved in gun trafficking, firearms offenses, and immigration violations.
Following the initial arrests on July 2, charges have been filed against 179 people. Many children, allegedly abducted by gangs, have been reunited with their families.
The operation, which commenced on May 1, featured participation from agencies such as the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Christopher Amon, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF Chicago Field Division, stated: “The success of Operation New Dawn reflects the leadership of the US Attorney’s Office and the trust, commitment, and collaboration among our Chicago federal law enforcement partners.”
FBI Director Kash Patel discussed the operation with Fox News, emphasizing the initiative’s role in reducing violent crimes and crimes against children. “Operation New Dawn represents a massive, whole-of-government approach under President Trump’s leadership,” he stated.
He further added: “The success of this op and more to come through initiatives like Summer Heat 2.0 should be a clear message that this FBI, our partners and the Justice Department led by AG Todd Blanche are full throttle on crushing criminal networks in this country no matter where they are.”

Authorities described the operation as ‘badgeless’, signifying that officers collaborated under the united banner of the United States rather than their individual departments.
Todd C. Smith, special agent in charge of the DEA Chicago Field Division, expressed that reducing violent crime remains a top priority for the DEA. “The significant drug seizures resulting from this operation underscore the close relationship between violence and drug trafficking activity,” he noted.
The US Attorney’s Office emphasized that all charges remain allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
