A mother of five, who was tragically stabbed to death, shared a haunting message on social media before two sisters allegedly ended her life.
Amaya Cookie Diaz, aged 19, and Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, both from Texas, were apprehended just hours following the fatal incident in Del Rio, a small town near the Mexican border.
The victim, Caroline ‘Caro’ Peña, 32, was attacked by the sisters alongside Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, who is also facing charges related to the murder.
According to the Del Rio police department, during an intense confrontation, Cookie stabbed Caroline in the back, which led to her death.
The three women are now facing first-degree murder charges. Reports from the police indicate that Kitty and Kyandra allegedly assaulted Peña after she suffered the stab wounds.
In a Facebook post dated June 11, just weeks before her death, Peña posted a foreboding message: “May God protect me from what my eyes don’t see and what my ears don’t hear.”
Caroline was urgently taken to a nearby hospital following the attack, but later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in San Antonio that evening.
In an official communication on their social media platforms, the Del Rio Police Department stated: “On June 25, 2026, at approximately 2:10 p.m., officers with the Del Rio Police Department responded to Val Verde Regional Medical Center after receiving a report of a female suffering from multiple stab wounds.
“Investigators gathered surveillance video, processed evidence, and conducted numerous witness interviews. At approximately 4:00 p.m., officers located and arrested Kitty Mia Diaz and Amaya Cookie Diaz without incident.”
Unexpectedly, Journalist Michael Elizondo conveyed to the New York Post that one of the sisters seemed in an unusually cheerful state during her arrest.
“She was all smiling, goofing off like nothing happened,” he reported.
He further described, “All of the sudden I see the window go down, and the girl was sticking out her face, sticking out her tongue and goofing off.”
In remembrance of her life, those close to the mother shared their thoughts on the woman she was.
“She was one of those people that she was born to be a mom. She really loved being a mom,” said Zelina Ochoa, a friend from childhood, to KENS 5.
Another close friend, Christina Salinas, remarked: “That girl, she was a fighter. She was still standing her ground.”
