Trump’s reaction to reporter’s question sparks curiosity about his two-time election as president

The dynamic between U.S. presidents and the press has historically been fraught with tension. Every president has faced moments where a question from the media provokes a sharp response.

In 2022, President Biden made headlines when he referred to Fox News’ Peter Doocy as ‘a stupid son of a b***h’ following a query about inflation. However, it seems that the current president, Donald Trump, has seen a noticeable rise in heated exchanges with reporters.

This tension extends beyond the confines of the White House. Recently, Trump stirred controversy by telling a reporter, “Quiet, piggy,” during a discussion about Epstein while aboard Air Force One, a remark described by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as “frankness.” This incident has brought attention to another moment where Trump clashed with reporters, prompting some to question his re-election success.

The resurfaced footage shows an incident from mid-September where Trump admonished a persistent reporter attempting to interrupt his speech. “Quiet. You’re really obnoxious,” stated Trump, 79 years old at the time.

Despite this, the reporter continued to interject, prompting Trump to address another journalist, saying, “I’m not going to talk to you until I call on you.”

The journalist Trump turned to was Jonathan Karl of ABC, a network that had previously settled a $15 million lawsuit with Trump for erroneously stating he had been found liable for rape instead of ‘sexual abuse’ by a New York civil court.

Karl questioned Trump about his stance on free speech, noting those critical of him. Trump, initially calm, responded, “I’ve become immune to it, there’s never been a person who’s had more unfair publicity than me and that’s why your network paid me $15 million… And that’s why CBS paid me a lot of money too, and that’s why I sued the New York Times two days ago.”

Trump’s frustration grew as he criticized ABC and its reporter: “The reason I’m winning is you’re guilty Jon. ABC is a terrible network, a very unfair network and you should be ashamed of yourself… and for you to stand there and act so innocent and ask me a question like that…”

When Karl attempted to counter Trump’s remarks about the network, Trump retorted, “You paid a big price because you were dishonest… so you can’t sit back and ask ‘what do you think’ like you’re some wonderful person.”

As with his “Quiet, piggy” comment, Trump’s remarks took a personal turn: “You’re not a wonderful person. Frankly, you’re a terrible reporter.”

While such confrontations with the media have fueled concerns among liberals about the erosion of democratic norms, for some of Trump’s supporters, this combative style is precisely what they admire. One supporter commented, “I love when he does this. They deserve public humiliation.”
