Dishwasher specialist shares what he would avoid after man films inside and leaves viewers unsettled

A dishwasher specialist has disclosed the one item he would never place inside his dishwasher after a viral YouTube video ignited a heated discussion about what transpires inside the machine.

It’s uncommon for a household appliance to stir such a frenzy online, but this situation is an exception.

The commotion began when a YouTuber shared an unexpected glimpse into the inner workings of their dishwasher.

The channel Povs Adventures uploaded footage demonstrating what occurs when a camera is placed inside a running dishwasher, which caught many by surprise.

Before this, very few people had witnessed the inside of a working dishwasher. Now that they have, the experience feels almost surreal.

The video triggered a lively debate in the comments, primarily due to its unexpected content.

The creator explained, “I put a camera in a dishwasher because I, like many others, wonder what really went on in there. I added a light, so it would be super clear and then I also filled it up more, I added a tide pod, I strapped the camera in, closed the dishwasher and then it was time to see what happened.”

Initially, everything appeared standard, with water spraying to start the cleaning cycle.

However, viewers were perplexed by the water’s color, which was unexpectedly brown rather than the expected clear and clean.

Following the video’s popularity, a dishwasher connoisseur shared his insights on what he avoids doing with his appliance.

Andrew Laughlin, a lead researcher at Which, mentioned that while the company tests 60 dishwashers annually, he has his own practices for using them effectively.

He advises against pre-rinsing dishes to conserve water.

In an article, he stated: “For some, the thought of not rinsing plates before loading them into the dishwasher will fill them with horror. But I never bother rinsing crockery – just scrape off any leftovers into the food bin and stick them straight in.”

Laughlin noted that most dishwasher cycles include a pre-rinse phase, eliminating the need for additional rinsing.

He further explained: “Modern, all-in-one dishwasher tablets are more than capable of taking on any mess thanks to a combination of powder and gel-based detergents.”

Despite these insights, the YouTuber’s subsequent attempt with a singular plate featuring a ketchup smiley face yielded similar results.

Was the water still discolored?

Indeed, it remained brown until the final five minutes when it cleared up.

The scene was still unsettling for many.

A commentator jokingly remarked, “Bro got the dishwasher hooked up to his septic tank.”

Another added, “Thank you for helping me see reasons why hand washing is best.”

A third viewer commented, “I am glad I was not the only one who was shocked by the brown water thank you for sharing anyway.”
