Cruise ship specialists have issued a warning that passengers could endanger others if they engage in a specific activity in their cabin rooms.
A cruise ship journey is expected to be an enjoyable and thrilling adventure for all participants, but there are essential guidelines that must be observed.
While typical travel and vacation manners are anticipated, some cruise ship authorities have emphasized the importance of not bringing a particular device into your cabin, even if you usually use it during hotel stays.
Cruise ship expert Jayson Judson frequently shares insights on TikTok about cruising, highlighting important dos and don’ts.
In one of his videos, he asserted that guests should refrain from using a specific travel item, as it can pose both safety and health hazards—critical concerns when at sea and far from immediate help.

Judson highlighted the importance of not using surge protector power cords in cabins.
Explaining his viewpoint, he stated: “They mess with the ship’s electrical system. Instead use a cruise-approved extension cord.”
Lifestyle Parade reporter Melissa Cabey, who identifies as a cruise ship expert after years of experience traveling on cruises as an entertainer, also weighed in on the discussion.
Echoing Judson’s advice, she noted in a report: “[Surge protector power cords] can cause issues with the ship’s electrical system–so much so that it could blow out the electrical sockets in your cabin.
She elaborated: “[The cords] generate heat, which poses a fire risk on cruise ships. As a crew member, I was always taught in safety training that fire is the number one risk onboard a cruise ship.
“Electricity doesn’t work how it works on land, and depending on many different factors, a fire could easily be started by things like surge protected power cords.”
Additionally, she pointed out that even though many cruise lines ban these items, they can sometimes bypass security checks and be used by guests who are not aware of the regulation.
She acknowledged that passengers genuinely need extension cords, given the limited outlets in some rooms, which can become problematic when traveling with family.
Nonetheless, she emphasized the importance of opting for a cruise-safe extension cord for overall safety.
