Ruby Wax has shared details about a memorable encounter with OJ Simpson during an infamous interview in the 1990s. The clip, which has resurfaced due to Wax’s participation in the show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, was recorded soon after Simpson’s acquittal for the murder of his wife, Nicole Brown.
In 1998, Ruby Wax, now 72, secured an interview with the former NFL player, who had been tried for the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman four years prior. The trial captured the world’s attention, leading to his acquittal amidst allegations of racial bias in prosecution and errors in evidence handling.
However, a later civil court case, which requires a lower level of proof, found Simpson civilly liable for the deaths.
Despite being acquitted, there were lingering suspicions, and Wax, along with many others, wanted to ask Simpson the pressing question: “Did you do it?”

Ruby Wax, who gained fame with her 1990s show The Full Wax, included Simpson in her celebrity interview series Ruby Wax Meets….
During the interview, Wax directly asked Simpson the question that he would face for the remainder of his life. His response was, “No, I didn’t,” as he turned to look into the camera.
While this response was impactful, what transpired after the interview was even more startling.
The video captures Wax opening the door to find Simpson holding a banana and mimicking a stabbing motion while making screeching sounds, reminiscent of the iconic shower scene from the film Psycho.
“That was insane. He tried to kill me with a banana. He said ‘I did it’ and then said ‘April Fool’s’,” Wax recalled in a later interview.
When questioned about why Simpson, widely regarded as a murderer until his death in 2024, made such a bizarre move, Wax explained: “Because he wanted to get caught, he couldn’t live with the guilt. He was teasing the whole time.”
“After we finished filming, Simpson said to me that he had a surprise for me – and I genuinely was surprised,” Wax recounted. “I think it was his idea of a joke.”
This wasn’t the only remarkable memory Wax has shared about her interview with Simpson, whom she dined with before their on-camera conversation.
Despite the controversy surrounding him, Simpson could still attract a group of admirers eager to be around him.
“At the restaurant, there was a whole queue of girls lining up to go home with him. And he had quite the appetite for that,” Wax stated in The Times.
“His sister told the girls to get lost. I couldn’t imagine why there were so many people who wanted to sleep with a man regarded as a murderer.”
