Donald Trump has openly expressed his thoughts concerning Marjorie Taylor Greene’s decision to leave Congress, shortly after he labeled her a ‘traitor’.
The president has been in a contentious dispute with Greene for some time, following her persistent calls for the Department of Justice to release documents related to Jeffrey Epstein and his network.
Once a staunch supporter of Trump, Greene advocated for several of his Make America Great Again objectives during his initial term.
However, their alliance seems to have deteriorated recently, with Trump describing her as a ‘traitor’ after her criticism of some of his policies.
On Friday, November 21, Greene announced in a detailed statement that she would resign as the representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district in 2026.

Following the announcement, Trump addressed her resignation during a call with ABC, stating: “I think it’s great news for the country. It’s great.”
When journalist Rachel Scott questioned Trump if he was informed ahead of Greene’s decision, he replied: “Nah, it doesn’t matter, you know but I think it’s great. I think she should be happy.”
In Greene’s statement, she indicated that her resignation would take effect on January 5, 2026.
In her farewell address, released both as a video and a transcript, Greene criticized fellow Republicans for their part in the recent government shutdown, while defending her own legislative record on significant issues like gun rights, abortion, and border security.
Greene further explained that she did not wish to defend Trump after he withdrew his endorsement of her the previous week.
“I have too much self respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the president we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms,” Greene stated.

Earlier this month, Greene criticized Trump for prioritizing foreign policy over domestic concerns, a stance Trump did not take kindly to.
“She’s lost her way, I think. But I have to view the presidency as a worldwide situation, not locally,” he commented that same day.
As Greene’s criticism of Trump intensified, his supporters began to turn against her, with Greene stating that she faced threats to her safety.
Addressing these threats in his characteristic manner, Trump dismissed the idea that she was in jeopardy, further inflaming the situation by saying: “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Greene. I don’t think her life is in danger, I don’t think.
“Frankly, I don’t think anybody cares about her.”
